As a managing director at BGI Capital, Luis Tio will oversee the firm’s expansion into New York and the Northeast region. A top producer in the industry, Luis brings his vast knowledge and extensive background in commercial real estate lending, asset management and finance to BGI Capital. Formerly, he was the chief credit officer and senior vice president at Carver Federal Savings Bank in New York City. He was responsible for monitoring a $600 million portfolio of commercial real estate and commercial loans and supervised the Credit, Portfolio Management, Underwriting and Loan Workout Departments. Prior to working with Carver Federal Savings Bank, Luis was the chief credit officer and senior vice president at City National Bank in Newark, New Jersey where he monitored over $160 million in commercial real estate and commercial loans. During his time at City National Bank, he served as chair of the Senior Management Loan Committee, chair of the Special Assets Committee and was a member of the Credit Committee. Luis also previously worked at BPD BANK in New York City as the vice president of Credit Risk Management and vice president of Workout.
Luis earned his MBA in Corporate Finance from New York University Stern School of Business, a Masters in Accounting from New Jersey City University, and his Bachelor of Arts from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in the Dominican Republic. Throughout his career, Luis has exhibited stellar performance and provided significant asset quality improvements to every banking institution he has managed. At BGI Capital, he will lead the firm in providing traditional, specialty and bridge financing services to clientele located in New York and work to build new relationships in the area for the company.
